Why women need a gentler protocol
Women's hormones (estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, thyroid) are more sensitive to under-eating than men's. Aggressive 16:8 or 18:6 fasts often backfire — irregular cycles, hair fall, poor sleep and rebound bingeing.
The sweet spot for most Indian women is 12:12 building slowly to 14:10, eaten as an early dinner + late breakfast, never by skipping meals randomly.
How to start this week
- Finish dinner by 8 pm, breakfast at 8 am — that's 12:12 with zero effort.
- Drink warm water, jeera water or plain green tea in the fasting window.
- Break the fast with protein + fiber (moong chilla, eggs, curd + sprouts) — never sugar or refined carbs.
- Skip fasting on period week, high-stress weeks, or if you're pregnant, breastfeeding or underweight.
- Track energy, sleep and cycle for 3 weeks before extending the window.
Signs to stop or shorten your fast
Missed periods, cold hands and feet, hair fall, poor sleep, anxiety or evening binges all mean the fasting window is too long. Shorten to 12:12 and add a protein-rich mid-morning snack.
